Frequently asked questions
- How long does a marriage-based green card take?
- For a spouse of a US citizen via adjustment of status (inside the US), typical timeline is 8-14 months from filing to approval. For consular processing (outside the US), 12-18 months. Cases with complications (irregular entry, expired status, criminal conviction) can take longer and may require a waiver. We evaluate this at the initial consultation.
- Do I have to pay everything before you start?
- No. The $5,000 can be paid in installments — typically 3 payments, customized to your case. Payment goes directly to Pinho Law (no Brazilian bank or currency-exchange middleman). After engagement, we start building the case immediately.
- What if the case is denied?
- We take eligible cases. If at the initial consultation we see the case isn't eligible or carries high risk, we tell you before you pay. On eligible cases our historical approval rate is 100% — not because we have tricks, but because we only take cases we know. Honesty first.
- Do you handle the whole case or just the legal part?
- Whole case. Form preparation, certified translations, evidence package, USCIS communication, interview prep. You show up to the interview; we prepare you for it. Your only job: show up and tell the truth.
- What languages do you handle?
- Portuguese, English, Spanish. Full team is fluent. Documents can be produced in any of the three as the case requires.
- What if I already have a case open with another firm?
- We can review the current case and give a second opinion. If you already hired another firm, we usually suggest finishing with them before transferring — unless there's a serious problem (missed deadline, conflict), in which case we can take over from where it is.
